Activity Badge #6
For Badge #6 we had to take the Explorer Quotient (EQ) survey to see what type of tourists we are and I really liked it. According to the quiz I took I am a gentle explorer with the following characteristics.
- conservative
- reliable
- traditional
- solitary
- selective
- discriminating
- fun-loving
I think it is pretty assertive because I like to feel secure wherever I go. I do not like to travel by myself, but I have not tried yet. Every type of traveller have different characteristics and according ti the quiz this are the characteristics of a gentle explorer. There are many type of travellers such as cultural explorers, free spirit, cultural history buff, no- hassle travellers, personal history explorer, rejuvenator, virtual traveller (You’re a gentle explorer, 2020).
Activity Badge #7
This class was so helpful because I gained so much knowledge in so many topics.
For Bagde #7 we watched the video of Crowded Out: The Story of Over-tourism.
I think we have discussed about over tourism in most of our classes and it is a huge problem around the world. There are many countries in Europe that are being affected by this problem. Tourists from all over the world are travelling to cites and local are not very happy about it. There are many consequences that locals are suffering such as experimenting an inflation of prices in rent, losing their privacy in their own city and tourists not respecting. Not only Europeans cities are being affected but places in Indonesia as well. It is really sad that the tourism industry is causing this but the governments of each country needs to have more regulations and strategies to control over-crowded places (Overtourism documentary, n.d).
Activity Badge #10
This class we had a guess lecturer, Dr. Kellee Caton. It was extremely helpful and interesting because we learned how the term “ecotourism” is being misunderstood and misuded around the world. Meaning that, a lot of places use it to sell a type of tourism; which is not what it means at all, as we have learned, in order for it to be ecotourism it needs to follow certain regulations and requirements. Furthermore, it means to have encounters with nature and the environment, while allowing those who experiment it to have an internal transformation.
Real Ecotourism goes way beyond being just some kind of destination brand or attraction.
In this Badge, I did share a personal experience I was able to have when I had an encounter with nature.
